Campus Conservation Nationals 2013

CCN 2013 is a three week energy and water conservation competition, challenging universities and colleges across the nation to reduce their energy and water consumption. UC Merced participated in the 2013 competition, involving 565 students and reducing their energy use by 8.2%. UC Merced was anounced UC Division 1st Place winner in the Alliance to Save Energy's PowerSave Campus League!

2nd Annual Water Battle 2012

The UC Merced Water Battle 2012 is a month long competition among 11 residence halls in the Valley and Sierra Terraces. Residents of Madera, Merced, Tulare, Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Kerns, Fresno, Kings, Calaveras,Tuolumne, Mariposa were challenged to conserve water in their dorms for 30 days by taking shorter showers, flushing the toilet only when needed, etc. During last years competition, students saved 90,000 gallons of water and reported 15 leaks resulting in 1.428 gallons of water mitigated. The competition uses real time monitoring that displays current rankings, water usage and helpful hints online via a dashboard, accessible on a computer or mobile devices. Greeks Going Green 2012

The Greeks going GREEN 2012 competition was a two-week challenge for the Greek Community in our campus, to see what organization could collect as many sustainability pledges. Participants promoted a greener lifestyle by getting people to take the pledge and committing to changing their lifestyles. The winners of the spring 2012 competition was Alpha Kappa Psi.

The UC Merced Water Battle 2011 was a month long competition among the 9 residence halls in the Valley Terraces. Residents of Madera, Merced, Tulare, Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Kerns, Fresno, Kings, Calaveras, were challenged to conserve water in their dorms for 31 days by taking shorter showers, flushing the toilet only when needed, etc. Students saved 90,000 gallons of water and reported 15 leaks resulting in 1.428 gallons of water mitigated. The competition used real time monitoring that displayed current rankings, water usage and helpful hints online via a dashboard accessible on a computer or mobile devices. The Power Save Green Campus Program partnered with a writing class that provided marketing materials and approaches that made this competition successful.

2012 Campus Conservation Nationals

Campus Conservation Nationals is a nationwide resource use reduction competition that challenges college and university campuses to achieve the greatest electricity and water use reductions during a 3-week period. The Valley Terraces will be competing and representing UC Merced against the nation. UC Merced won this years Power Save Green Campus Division, conserving more than 3,000 kWh and have a 3.7% Average Reduction Rate. 565 students participated in reducing their energy use.

Green Festival

The Green Festival was a two day campaign that educated the entire student body about sustainability and the importance of conservation. Students learned about UC Merced Triple Zero Commitment, Recycling, Composting, Energy Conservation, Water Conservation and much more. Power Save Green Campus Program held three workshops aimed to introducing students to the Greek Workforce and educating them about Water Conservation. Power Save Green Campus also held their first Design Charrette where students designed a sustainable building in three hours.
